Launched in 2014 by the Rotary Club of Singapore, the Artisan of the Year Award has evolved into a prestigious honour that recognizes extraordinary craftsmanship and social contributions. The trophy, a symbol of distinction, portrays an individual standing out among peers in both vocation and societal endeavors. The coveted prize includes not only the trophy but also a certificate, a tangible testament to the recipient’s exceptional achievements.

The eligibility criteria for the Award is as follows:

  • Only for individuals
  • Singapore residents
  • Minimum 5 years performing the vocation
  • No minimum or maximum age

Nominations can be made by the members of Rotary Club of Singapore, other organisations or individuals.

Judging Panel

The Judging Panel comprises Rotary Club of Singapore members and a prominent external expert for the evaluation of the artisanal work.

The Judging Panel members are nominated by the Rotary Club of Singapore every year.

Commitment and Passion

  • Demonstrates unwavering commitment and passion for their vocation, showcasing dedication to excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Exhibits personal resiliency, adaptability, and perseverance in overcoming challenges, reflecting a genuine love for their craft.

High Ethical Standards

  • Consistently upholds and practices fairness in their vocation, maintaining high ethical standards in all aspects of their work.
  • Displays integrity, honesty, and transparency, contributing to a positive and trustworthy environment within their craft.

Quality Craftsmanship

  • Exhibits a high level of workmanship, skillfully using hands to bring about exceptional results.
  • Demonstrates a clear and thoughtful interpretation of the theme, prioritizing quality craftsmanship over mere originality in their creations.

Service to Community

  • Actively promotes the love for their vocation, inspiring others through their dedication and passion.
  • Utilizes their vocation to serve the community, contributing positively to society through their craft and making a meaningful impact on others.

Application Process

  • From November to March annually, the Call for Nominations is announced, inviting members of the Rotary Club, relevant organizations, and the public to submit nominations for the Artisan of the Year Award.
  • A yearly invitation flyer is distributed through various communication channels. 
  • The Award Committee oversees the evaluation process, where the Judging Panel carefully reviews all submitted applications.
  • If necessary, a shortlist of nominees is prepared based on the judging criteria.
  • The Judging Committee then arranges visits to the shortlisted nominees, gaining insights into their commitment, passion, ethical standards, craftsmanship, and service to the community.
  • The award winner is officially announced, and the prestigious Artisan of the Year Award is presented during the Annual Presidential Installation Night of the Rotary Club of Singapore in June.
  • This culmination event celebrates the exceptional achievements of the recipient, recognizing their dedication to craftsmanship and community service in the presence of the Rotary Club members and the wider community.
